Joana de Mattos Siqueira is a partner and a member of the firm’s Trademarks team. With more than 20 years of experience practicing Intellectual Property law, her work encompasses all aspects of trademark protection before the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (INPI), including prosecution, oppositions, and other administrative proceedings. She also provides strategic advice on complex trademark matters, with a focus on risk mitigation and, whenever possible, avoiding litigation.
Joana is responsible for managing trademark portfolios for major international companies and is actively involved in leading global IP organizations such as INTA, ASIPI, and ECTA. She currently serves on INTA’s Leadership Committee and Nominating Committee, is an INTA Ambassador, and is a former Board Member of the INTA Foundation. She also served as National Delegate of ASIPI (Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property) from 2021 to 2025, is a member of the Women in Law Mentoring Association, and sits on the Professional Affairs Committee of ECTA (European Communities Association).
She is one of the Chairs of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of ABPI (Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property) and a member of the Association’s Council. Joana is also frequently involved in the organization of intellectual property events in Brazil and abroad.
In addition, Joana has a longstanding and consistent commitment to pro bono work and social responsibility initiatives. For more than eight years, she served as Vice Chair of ASIPI’s Social Responsibility Committee, leading social impact projects in different countries, and for four years she was a member of INTA’s Pro Bono Committee. Within Montaury Pimenta, she is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, leads the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and coordinates the firm’s mentoring program, Incluir Direito, developed in partnership with CESA (Law Firms’ Research Center). She is also a member of WLM (Women in Law Mentoring).
Joana is a member of WIPLA (Women’s Intellectual Property Lawyers Association) and was recognized as one of the most influential women in IP by World IP Review in 2020, as well as a Diversity Champion in IP in 2022 by the same publication. She regularly participates in international initiatives focused on women in intellectual property, including events such as the MIP International Women’s Leadership Forum.
She has been consistently recognized as a leading trademark practitioner in Brazil and internationally by renowned legal directories, including WTR 1000, Leaders League, and IP Stars.

José Eduardo Filgueiras graduated in Civil Engineering from Universidade Gama Filho in 1982 and later specialized in Industrial Property. He is a registered industrial property agent with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) under No. 2182.
José has extensive experience in legal actions involving patents and industrial designs, specializing in the preparation of technical opinions and questions for such cases, as well as acting as a technical assistant for one of the parties involved.
He also advises national and international clients on technical matters during the administrative process of patent applications, conducts prior art searches, prepares freedom-to-operate opinions, and drafts patent applications, particularly in the fields of civil and mechanical engineering.

Júlia Bessa Sanzi is a lawyer with solid experience in strategic civil litigation, with a focus on digital law, intellectual property, and privacy and data protection. She has been part of renowned specialized law firms, advising national and multinational companies, particularly in the technology sector.
Her experience includes handling complex lawsuits, representing clients before courts and public agencies (such as consumer protection bodies, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the Brazilian Data Protection Authority -ANPD), responding to information security incidents, conducting pre-litigation negotiations, and providing legal advice in developing strategies for data protection and the defense of intellectual property rights, as well as resolving disputes related to innovation and the digital environment.
She is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Intellectual Property Law at PUC-Rio and holds a postgraduate degree in Digital Law and Compliance from Damásio Educacional. She earned her Law degree from the Catholic University of Santos and holds an international certification as a Data Protection Officer (DPO) from EXIN.
